Sylvia Dash
Sylvia Maud Dash was born in 1905, daughter of the late Orphew Jame Dash and Maud Dash of St. Mawes. She was killed on the night of 13 November 1944 at 81 Portland Avenue, Gravesend, Kent. She was one of five people killed by the impact of a V2 missile. It has not been possible to find out why she was in Gravesend, though she may have been working as a nurse at Chatham Naval Hospital.
The following is from the Falmouth Packet dated Friday 24 November 1944:
“Killed by enemy action – The funeral of Miss Sylvia Dash, aged 39, of the Ranch, St. Mawes was very largely attended at St. Just in Roseland Parish Church on Saturday. Miss Dash, who was killed by enemy action, was well known throughout the Roseland. She took a keen interest in local activities at St. Mawes, being a member of the Women’s Institute and the Red Cross.”
