Sea Fishing. A talk by Robert Wing.

Our next meeting promises to be both interesting and informative.

Sea fishing had developed into a recognisable industry in Cornwall by Tudor times and has remained an important part of the local economy ever since. It therefore plays an important part in our maritime heritage. Despite setbacks, the industry remains very important to our economy today even though there has been a decline in fish consumption in Cornwall over the last 100 years or so. The industry now faces new challenges in the form of future markets for the whitefish for which it is famous.

Rob Wing will explore these and other issues in the historic context of the Cornish fishing industry. He was brought up in St Mawes and can speak with authority of many aspects of the fishing industry in Cornwall. Be prepared to go home with an enhanced appetite for fish!

Please note that the meeting will be held at the MEMORIAL HALL. Please come at about 7.15pm for a glass of something ready for the talk at 7.30pm. The audience was very prompt last time and we kept you waiting a little too long.

We look forward to seeing you on 16 August.
